Drain your whirlpool and extend its lifespan – Find out how here!

Find out why whirlpool care is so important and how to go about it here:

A whirlpool, with its warm water and hydromassage, is a touch of luxury in your home. But to ensure this feeling of well-being lasts, proper care is crucial. The better you maintain a whirlpool, the better you can extend the lifespan of your spa oasis.

But why is regularly emptying your outdoor hot tub so important? Is it really necessary?

YES. Even if the water appears clean, over time, residues of limescale, care products, skin particles, body oils, and dirt build up.

These contaminants create a breeding ground for bacteria and make the water cloudy and unhygienic, despite the addition of chemical cleaning agents and filters.

In addition, these residues can build up in the nozzles and pipes and this can impair the technology .

This means that to keep your whirlpool really clean and extend its lifespan, regular emptying is important.

How often should you drain and clean a hot tub?

In general, it's hard to say. It depends on how often it's actually used.

Assuming daily use , the water should be changed after 8 weeks at the latest .

If you use it only occasionally or rarely , you should change the water at least every 3 months .

Especially after extended periods of non-use, bacteria can build up. Therefore, you should completely empty and refill the pool after a longer period of inactivity.

Tip: Draining your hot tub can also be helpful if you notice that the jets are bubbling less vigorously or if the water smells strange or musty despite adding cleaning products.

How does emptying work?

Our hot tubs have two types of drain valves for different hot tubs: the side drain valve is located on the panel and the square drain valve is located on a corner of the floor .

The item number of your hot tub (SPA**) tells you which one applies to your product. You can find this in the product description in our online shop. Alternatively, you can also use the name of your outdoor hot tub as a guide.

CAUTION: The power supply must be turned off before draining. Otherwise, serious damage may occur due to dry running. This type of damage is NOT covered by the warranty.

Runoff water should be drained exclusively into a drain . No water should be allowed to flow onto lawns or plants unless the chlorine has evaporated.

SPA08 to SPA18

For these models you need a 3/4" counterpart (e.g. Gardena)

1. Open the drain valve cover to open the red ball valve (the ball valve connected to the black drain valve is closed at the factory). 2. Remove the drain valve cap by turning it counterclockwise. 3. Connect a ¾-inch hose or screw a standard hose connector to the valve and connect your hose. 4. Turn the valve counterclockwise until it stops, then pull the valve forward to drain the water.

SPA52 to SPA62

1. Locate your drain. Pull the knob out of the cabinet. The cabinet drain is screwed into the drain pull knob. 2. Remove the cap. Make sure the valve is closed, then unscrew the cap. Unscrew the cap.
3. Connect the valve to a garden hose. Attach a garden hose to the hose connector, as shown. Place the other end of the garden hose where you want the water to drain. 4. Drain the water from the hot tub. Turn the valve on the hose connector to open the drain.
5. When the spa is completely drained, turn the valve on the hose connector. 6. Remove the garden hose and replace the cap.

Tip: After emptying, you can clean the acrylic of any deposits with a damp microfiber cloth.

Once everything is clean again, you can refill your hot tub with tap water and add the water care products again.

Please make sure that you only turn on the product when the water level has reached the optimal height.

Extra tips for caring for your hot tub:

Even small habits can increase the lifespan of your whirlpool and improve hygiene:

After use: Turn on the filter and let the water circulate

Once a week: Rinse the filter (we recommend changing it at least once a year)

After bathing: attach and close the supplied thermal cover to prevent dirt from falling into the whirlpool

Water care: Always check the pH value and use the right care products in the right dosage

Do you want to empty your hot tub because you don't use it in the winter?

In principle, you should also use our whirlpools in winter , as they were designed with the integrated frost guard exactly for this purpose.

But if you don't want to use it at all in winter, that's not a problem either; there are just a few additional things to consider:
  1. After you have completely emptied it, you can blow air through the pipes and nozzles.
  2. Open the pump valves so that no water remains there either.
That's it. Your hot tub is now ready for its winter break.

Cleanliness is the secret to long-term relaxation
