Buying a whirlpool made easy - Your checklist

There are enough compelling reasons to purchase a hot tub. Now it's time to consider the prerequisites, requirements, and your own wishes regarding its features.

Here is the checklist that makes buying your hot tub a breeze:

CHOOSING A LOCATION

Before deciding on a specific model, you should choose the location for your future hot tub, as it will remain there for quite some time.

Indoors or outdoors?

If the hot tub is to be placed outdoors, make sure it is weather-resistant and adequately insulated. The ground must be flat, even, and stable. A concrete slab in the garden is ideal.

If the hot tub is to be placed on a balcony, terrace, or indoors, it must be determined whether the load-bearing capacity is sufficient. The tub becomes very heavy when filled with water. It is best to have this checked by a structural engineer.

Surroundings

When setting up in the garden, pay attention to the surroundings. Plants and trees that shed leaves, blossoms, or needles can contaminate the hot tub. This saves you some work.

The location should also be chosen based on how private you want your bathing experience to be. If trees or bushes lose their leaves in winter, neighbors might be able to see the chosen spot.

If you generally prefer more privacy, you can consider a gazebo with curtains or let your creativity run wild with various privacy screen options.

A sheltered location also minimizes heat loss, which can efficiently reduce electricity consumption.

Subsurface

In our regions, where temperatures drop below freezing in winter, it is absolutely necessary to prepare insulation for the ground. This protects the technology, and when placed, the tub can still be easily moved by hand. This is not possible with gravel or crushed stone as a base.

Accessibility

The accessibility of the chosen location plays a crucial role. Does the hot tub need to be transported through narrow entrances, stairwells, or various doors?

How will it be delivered? Can the spot be reached with a crane, or can you get to the prepared location via a paved path?

It is very important to measure beforehand and carefully inspect the route, as problems may arise during delivery otherwise.

However, in terms of use, one should also consider the path one has to take to reach their hot tub oasis. In bad weather, such as rain or snow, a shorter path is generally more advantageous.

Freedom of movement

For both installation and maintenance, you should ensure that there is enough space around the hot tub.

To enter the hot tub, the access for getting into the basin should also be wide enough. It is also a good idea to install a non-slip surface on the ground. This helps to enter and exit the tub without the risk of slipping.

CONNECTIONS

Water connection

While the hot tub does not require a direct water connection, it is important to ensure that a water connection with a garden hose is within reach. You should clarify beforehand whether these conditions are met.

Since the hot tub also needs to be emptied regularly, a drain or a wastewater system should be nearby and easily accessible.

Power connection

Your own hot tub also requires a power supply – either standard electricity, usually 230V, or heavy current with 380V – more information can be found in our description. Some of our models are also suitable for both types. This work should always be carried out by a qualified electrician to rule out safety risks.

COSTS

Price of the hot tub

Of course, you should also set a realistic budget for how much you want to spend. There are numerous hot tub variations with different sizes, colors, features, seating, lounging & jet positions, and functionalities.

Inflatable hot tubs are available from us starting at €399, but of course, they don't have as many jets as a proper outdoor hot tub.

A proper outdoor hot tub is a worthwhile investment for several years. With good and regular maintenance, it can even last up to 20 years. Therefore, you should carefully consider which features you need.

A hot tub is not just a luxury product, but also has many health benefits. You can read more about it here in our blog post.

Operating costs

In addition to the purchase costs, you should also keep the operating costs in mind. Every hot tub has different power consumption. For maintenance, various chemicals are needed, and water consumption increases due to regular water changes.

Please note that larger pools that accommodate more people will incur higher heating costs as more energy is required.

Naturally, the ongoing operating costs (electricity costs) depend on how often the pool is used.

Maintenance and care

Hot tubs have built-in systems that filter dirt from the water. These filter & cleaning systems must be replaced or maintained regularly.

Since water quality also needs to be controlled (pH value), different chemicals are required to keep the water hygienic and clean. This is achieved with disinfectants, chlorine, and pH regulators.

Otherwise, the hot tub can be infested with algae or bacteria. It is best to clean thoroughly during water changes to achieve the best water quality. This also prevents deposits from accumulating.

Integrated cleaning systems, UV disinfection, and ozone generators can reduce maintenance effort, but higher acquisition costs must be expected.

If the hot tub is to be placed outdoors, it must be ensured that adequate frost protection is provided. Otherwise, serious damage can occur due to frozen water.

SUPPORT

Reliable customer service is important in case of questions about purchasing, using, or maintaining the pool. Even in case of problems or for spare parts after the purchase, there should be competent contact persons.

ACCESSORIES

When buying a hot tub, you should also consider the included accessories. Professionals know that a cover is essential for maintaining water temperature. An included step reduces the risk of falling and makes entering the pool effortless and easy.
